I am an artist living and working in Somerset, having previously called Africa, London, Japan, and Cornwall home.
My work reflects the diverse experiences I've gathered along my journey, shaped by the places I’ve lived and the challenges I’ve faced.
I am passionate about filling spaces with the same happiness, vitality, and love that have carried me through challenging times. My work is a celebration of the beauty in renewal and the transformative power of joy. By sharing these emotions through my art, I hope to bring a sense of happiness and well-being into the places my paintings reside in, reminding others that, even in difficulty, there is always room for joy, love, and celebration of life.
When I lived in Cornwall, I would spend mornings walking along the beaches and coastal paths around Rock and Daymer Bay, often stopping to capture moments with rapid pencil sketches. These sketches later guided my painting process, where I use energetic strokes directly onto the canvas. For me, painting is driven by colour, form, and rhythm—key elements that I use to create vibrant, life-filled compositions.
Each painting is a personal journey, reflecting my connection to the subject. I aim to bring spontaneity to my brushstrokes, combining memory with imagination to fill the canvas with energy and emotion.
Having overcome various serious illnesses, my art is a reflection of my journey toward healing and an inner celebration of love and life. Each painting is an outpouring of joyful energy, expressing not only my gratitude for health and repair but also the profound appreciation I have for simply being alive.

“I found my two three hour sessions with Vanessa enjoyable and instructive - being not quite a beginner, the tips and advice really helped me remember, and, put into practice my previous efforts at sketching, using and mixing paints - using my sketch book if possible daily is a great tip!”
